Bringing St Stephen’s bells to the next generation in Victoria

Rededication Service

20th April 2016

Over 200 people attended the service of celebration at St Stephens, Rochester Row on Wednesday 20th April 2016.

The Bishop of London, a former vicar of St Stephen's, rededicated the bells and blessed brass plaques which had been made to acknowledge the sponsors of each bell.

Senior representatives from the Middlesex County Association & London Diocesan Guild of Church Bell ringers, The Ancient Society of College Youths, The Society of Royal Cumberland Youths and The Westminster Abbey Company of ringers attended and took part in ringing directly after the service. We were also joined by the Lord Mayor of Westminster, a senior representative of Coutts and Co. and the previous vicar The Rev'd Philip Welsh. Earlier in the day the current vicar the Rev'd Graham Buckle ascended the tower to bless the bells in situ.

The bells, which sound even grander than before, are now a pleasure to ring and we are grateful for all the support given throughout this project. Ringing on Sunday has resumed though extra ringing will not take place until the sound control is fully operational. The training facilities will be the next stage of this project and we hope to complete these later this year.
